Analyzing the 2nd, 4th, and 10th Houses of Elvis Presley
The following analysis of the chart of Elvis Presley utilizes principles studied in the Bhavas and Houses Class taught by Ryan Kurczak, in addition to the ancient texts regarding Prosperity or Annihilation of a house in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. This essay will examine the 2nd, 4th, and 10th houses of Elvis Presley.
Indications in the chart will be compared against what are known to be real events that occurred in the life of Elvis Presley. Elvis Presley was a musician and actor active from the 1950s to his untimely death in 1977. He will forever be remembered as the king of rock and roll. His life was met with many challenges, including a difficult childhood, an abusive manager, and persistent drug addiction. Despite that, he was very fortunate with his rise to fame, loving parents, and material success.

2nd House: Resources and Early Childhood
The 2nd house relates to the exploration of material aspects of the physical world and finances and wealth. It also relates to the mouth which can deal with speech and the food we ingest. The 2nd house also relates to early childhood.
Analysis of the 2nd House
The 2nd house in this chart is poorly indicated using the guidelines from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra for Prosperity or Annihilation of a house. At first glance, we can see that two malefics are situated in the 2nd house, Sun and Mercury. Sun is a natural malefic, and Mercury being with the Sun makes it act like a malefic. The 2nd house is in Sagittarius, making Jupiter its lord. Jupiter is situated in Libra in the 12th House. Jupiter is not Rasi aspecting its own house. Additionally, Jupiter is in a Mrita Avastha. Jupiter is placed in Venus’s sign making it a natural enemy, and therefore makes Jupiter in a Sushupti Avastha. To add to the difficulty, the 2nd house is getting Rasi aspected by a malefic Mars in the 11th House. Furthermore, Saturn is exalted in the 2nd house of the Navamsa chart, giving further indication for hardship and endurance.
The only apparent indications for prosperity would be a benefic waxing Moon Rasi aspecting the house lord, Jupiter. However, since the Moon is with malefic Saturn in Aquarius, the difficult energy of Saturn flows towards Jupiter as well.
Overall, the house leans towards annihilation. The house itself contains two malefic planets, along with a malefic Rasi aspect from Mars. The house lord, Jupiter is in both Mrita Avastha and Sushupti Avastha. We can expect this house to be quite difficult for the native, which will be reflected in the real life events and childhood of Elvis.
2nd House Life Experiences
Presley experienced a difficult childhood from the moment he was born. His twin brother, Jesse Presley, was born just 35 minutes before Elvis, stillborn. His family consisted of himself and both parents, with whom he grew very close. The family was very poor and had little financial resources, often relying on neighbors or government assistance. Additionally, the 2nd house relates to the things we ingest, and it is known that Presley developed a drug addiction while serving in the military that persisted through most of his career. Additionally, it is also important to note that Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, was discovered to be taking a whopping 50% cut of the star’s income. All of these 2nd House related life experiences seem to be manifestations of the stack of negative impacts on the house [malefic planets impacting the house (Sun with Mercury, and Mars) as well as the house lord being in both asleep and dead states].
4th House: Home and Mother
The 4th House relates to the home and its environment, one’s emotional happiness and comforts, and the heart. This house also indicates the experiences of the mother. The planets here express in a more intimate manner, showing close family bonds. Additionally, it can give indications for vehicles, conveyances, land, and property and one’s ability to acquire such things. Additionally, it can specifically indicate the close of life and the grave.
Analysis of the 4th House
Looking at the planets in the 4th house, we see a malefic Saturn conjunct a benefic waxing moon in Aquarius, making Saturn the 4th house lord. We see Jupiter aspecting the 4th house which will help to support this area of life. Saturn is an evil planet for the Scorpio ascendant, since it rules the 3rd and 4th house. But since it is favorably placed in its mulatrikona sign of Aquarius, the house lord is awake in Jagrat Avastha. However, Saturn is in Bala avastha, or infant state, meaning this Saturn is not very potent.
Although Saturn is a difficult planet, it is strongly placed in mulatrikona and the house is further supported by two benefics, the Moon and Jupiter. Overall, these indications point towards prosperity of the 4th house.
4th House Life Experiences
While Presley had a difficult childhood in regard to 2nd House things, he was very close with his parents, especially his mother. Despite this, Presley may have dealt with difficult emotional states due to Saturn conjunct the Moon, given his drug addiction. After becoming famous, Presley was well known for his large, magnificent home and estate, Graceland. Graceland to this day receives tourists from all over the world. Presleys’ great deal of wealth in regards to his home and property seem to reflect the number of positive indications towards the 4th house. As mentioned, the 4th House can specifically indicate the heart, the close of life, and the grave; Presley died of heart failure, like his mother, and was buried on his Graceland estate.
10th House: Life Activity and Career
The 10th house indicates one’s activity in life, achievements in the material world, and public status. It is often connected to career, fame, and one’s impact on the world. Additionally, it can indicate authority figures and one’s relationship to them.
Presley’s 10th house falls in the sign of Leo, the lion rasi. The sign of Leo represents the field from which this house will grow and symbolizes leadership, sacrifice, and legacy. On the prosperity side, the 10th house is supported by both great benefics, Jupiter and Venus, through Rasi aspects. The house lord, the Sun, is Jagrat in the 2nd house in the sign of Sagittarius.
On the annihilation side, the 10th house lord is not aspecting its own house, and the lord is conjunct Mercury, an evil lord owning the 8th and 11th house. Additionally, the house lord is in Mrita Avastha. Given all these indications, we can expect this house to give mixed results.
10th House Life Experience
The following facts about Elvis’s life seem to reflect the prosperous aspects of the 10th house indications. Presley rose to an extremely high level of fame and public status once his musical career began as a teenager. He is still regarded worldwide as the king of rock and roll and his legacy lives on throughout the world. One thing that may reflect the negative influences to the 10th house would be that his career was not perfect; his relationship with his manager, who can be viewed as an authority figure, had much control over him in his career and Presley struggled to assert himself within that relationship. On the other hand, Presley was also drafted into the military, a form of government work involved in 10th house affairs, and served for two years. While it did temporarily interrupt his music career, he desired the same treatment as any other soldier, and successfully gained respect and good status within the ranks.
Let’s further examine the lord of the 10th house (Sun) and the house from which it grows (Sagittarius).

The 10th lord being in the 2nd house can give someone the capability for social status to improve financial status, which was certainly reflected in Presley’s life.
Also, the Sun is conjunct Mercury and therefore has influences to how the Sun will manifest. Mercury is the Atmakaraka, or soul indicator, for this chart. Influences from Mercury on the 10th lord as well as being the Atmakaraka could reflect Presely’s career in acting given that Mercury often deals with skills in that area. Furthermore, these planets manifest from the sign of Saguttarius whose qualities include fiery ambition and higher inspiration. These qualities seem to be reflected in Presely’s career.
Overall, though it did not come without some challenges, prosperity seems abundantly clear given the enormous amount of fame and esteem Presley has achieved. It is unlikely that the influences to the 10th alone contributed to the level of fame Elvis achieved. The 7th house in Presley’s chart is also set up for prosperity; it is Rasi aspected by benefits Venus and Jupiter, and the house lord Venus is Jagrat (although Vriddha Avastha) and is aspecting its own house. Since the 7th house often deals with the public and its perception of an individual’s projection into the world, all of these benefic influences to the 7th house likely contributed to the intense adoration that Presley received from the public.
After analyzing the selected houses, it is evident that the principles studies in the ‘Bhavas and Houses Class’ have allowed for deeper insight into the life experiences of Elvis Presley. Presley’s chart indicates an individual who had to overcome several challenging things in their lifetime despite there being ample support for fame and status. Like most charts, Elvis’s chart had mixed indications which contained both positive and negative results.
